IP Australia required support in standardising data reporting, building a corporate style, developing interactive reports and providing training on effective communications. To find a skilled person, they looked to Data Knowhow.

Data Knowhow identified appropriate personnel to fill this role who:

• Liaised with stakeholders to understand approaches, tools, and challenges.

• Developed a data visualisation guide to support the organisation in standardising its visualisation.

• Built style standards and icon galleries, and developed training to build capability within the organisation.

• Developed interactive visualisations to demonstrate capability and new approaches that needed to be taken to support wider audience engagement.

• Developed data processes and modelling for global patent data, converting technology insights into a useful database for analysis and reporting. Tableau reports were created using these data for static and interactive reporting.    

• Supported HR and finance sections with the re-design of data and reporting tools to be more engaging and useful to end-users, providing better business intelligence throughout the organisation.

• Supported the transition of systems, data and tools to Power BI.

• Provided training for a range of staff for Tableau, Power BI, and data reporting and standards.

Internally, IP Australia are able to report digitally on HR and finance with secure data models ensuring data privacy is maintained. The style and standards of reports allow insights to be communicated easily to all staff.

Externally, IP Australia have developed a range of interactive reports to support clients, including patent landscape reports, research reports and reports supporting an entrepreneur program. Reporting has rapidly been standardised capability improved on how to effectively communicate data.
