Senior Storage Infrastructure Engineer

We are recruiting for a Senior Storage Infrastructure Engineer for our client, a Canberra based federal government agency.

The role supports the Infrastructure Platforms team which is responsible for the management of all data centers, server hosts and virtualization, automation, storage, backup and restore capability. The team is also responsible for providing after hours on-call support for our infrastructure.

Estimated start date: Monday, 27 April 2026

Initial contract duration: 12 months

Extension term: 12 months

Experience level: EL1 equivalent

Location of work: ACT

Working arrangements: Onsite

Maximum hours: 40 hours per week

Security clearance: Baseline clearance is required.

Key duties and responsibilities

The client is seeking a Senior Storage Engineer who has experience working in large complex ICT environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for deploying, configuring, managing and tuning the department’s storage systems at physical and virtual layers. The Senior Storage Engineer will also be responsible to deploy, configure and manage Storage Area Network Switches as required. The successful candidate should have knowledge of new and emerging technologies to shape the future direction of the department’s storage and data platforms. The role requires producing design documents, build documents, operations document, handover and sharing of knowledge with other team members and mentoring junior team members.

Criteria

The buyer has specified that each candidate must provide a one page pitch to address all criteria specified. This is equal to 5000 characters.

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in the design, administration, tuning and troubleshooting of one or more of the following storage systems: • HPE 3PAR, Primera, Alletra Storage Systems • NetApp E-Series • Dell Data Domain • Brocade Fabric Switches • SANnav • Scality Artesca

  • Ability to produce design, build and operations documents for processes and procedures.

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and collaboration skills to work with skilled technical people, including making presentations to staff and stakeholders and coaching staff.

  • Experience / Knowledge of following technology: • Veeam Backup and Replication
