Senior Cloud Engineer
We are recruiting for a Senior Cloud Engineer for our client, the Australian Electoral Commission.
The AEC is seeking experienced Cloud Engineers to work within the Chief Technology and Data Officer Branch of the
Enterprise Transformation Group.
AEC Cloud Engineers are responsible for undertaking very complex and sensitive work, under broad direction, utilising expertise across a range of activities relating to IT Infrastructure.
Successful applicants will be primarily focused on managing and improving the AEC’s Azure infrastructure, such as Azure resources, Office 365 applications, and AEC’s Standard Operating Environments. Additionally, Cloud Engineers may be asked to manage or develop AWS infrastructure.
Please note, candidates must hold an active Baseline security clearance prior to commencement.

Maximum hours: 40 hours per week
Applicants will be required perform the role in Canberra. Hybrid working arrangements (i.e. a combination of onsite attendance at an AEC office and remote working) will be considered at the discretion of the Hiring Manager.

Key duties and responsibilities
The role will be responsible for, but not limited to:
Under direction of the relevant Director/Program Manager/Team Leaders, the Cloud Engineer’s tasks and responsibilities will be to work on infrastructure tasks such as:
Office 365 Mail, File Collaboration, Teams and associated services;
Azure AD Identity;
Azure Automation;
Security Compliance configuration;
Migration of users, systems and data;
Documentation and handover into Operations.
Key success indicators will be:
Demonstrating evidence-based decision making which is robust and documented;
Managing and engaging with risk in all cloud areas of the program;
Anticipating and establishing priorities for the cloud components in the program;
Identifying and delivering strategic and innovative deliverables in the best interest of the agency;
Engaging with agency stakeholders and ensuring their requirements are addressed; and
Providing high quality timely advice and guidance to the Program’s management in relation to cloud services.

Essential criteria
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in implementing enterprise IT solutions consuming Azure services, including some or all of the following:
Infrastructure as a service (IaaS) setup and management
Identity
Entra ID (AAD), Azure B2C and Entra ID Connect
API Management (APIM) - developing APIs, APIM maintenance and infrastructure
Serverless Compute
Azure Functions, Web Apps
Storage
blobs, files shares, queues and tables
Integration
Service Bus and Event Hub
Certificate management
Secrets / Key vault management
Experience in writing Azure DevOps CI/CD YAML pipelines using ARM and Bicep
Experience with managing and migrating solution infrastructure to the Azure platform.
Demonstrated knowledge of risk management principles and processes in context of Infrastructure management.

Highly desirable criteria
Intune management and configuration of mobile devices.
Office 365 best practice and configuration in keeping with the DTA blueprint.
Demonstrated experience in telephony solutions at a nationwide/enterprise level, including solutions for calling centre / contact centre metrics.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in implementing enterprise IT solutions consuming AWS services - including, but not limited to the following:
Landing Zone uplifts
AWS Identity Centre
AWS Audit Manager
Desirable criteria
Relevant graduate qualifications in IT, such as computer science/engineering degree. Industry Cloud Certifications.
Experience with GIT version control and common branching strategies.
Demonstrated experience with power platform automation.
Demonstrated knowledge of IT frameworks, such as ITIL and TOGAF.
Demonstrated knowledge of the Commonwealth frameworks, including ICT frameworks.
